Throwing Rib - TR036

OVERVIEW:
This rib is a finishing guide that will save you valuable time, whether you are producing a one-off piece or are in a production style setup. These ribs will help you to consistently throw the same curves, shapes and height from mug to mug. Our tools are designed, printed and tested by a potter, for potters.

PLA/PLA+ INFO:
Our pottery tools are 3D printed using PLA filament. PLA is a biodegradable polymer, which can be obtained from corn starch, making it a natural alternative to polyethylene.
Objects printed by filament with PLA or PLA+ are not directly food safe.. Filament printing leaves tiny gaps between layers where potentially pathogenic bacteria could lodge if the filament.

USAGE TIPS :
Our ribs are designed with right handed/Counter Clockwise throwing in mind. If you need or desire a rib for left handed/clockwise throwing, just reach out and let us know. We are happy to accommodate any such design requests.
Centering, opening and pulling up your walls into a volcano-like cylinder along with proper use of water and orientation of the rib are essential to its success. An adequately wet outer wall of the cylinder and moderately quick wheel speed are a must. Firmly grip the rib, holding it in the 3 o’clock position to your pot firmly based on the bat. Slowly apply outward pressure in an upward movement from the interior stretching the clay out along the curve of the rib. Reapply water and clean extra slip/clay from the rib as needed to keep it from sticking.
Take the time to position the template at the correct diameter and brace your hand and arm securely to avoid involuntary movement.

CARE:
This item is NOT dishwasher safe. It is best to use cold or room temperature water with a sponge or brush to clean. Prolonged exposure to hot temperatures, or direct sunlight can cause warping. PLA is biodegradable, so make sure to remove it from wet environment and dry it after use.

SHAPE, SIZE and COLOR:
Item photos show the curve shape and a reference photo to the possible thrown piece. These are generated in our CAD program when designing the item. When possible and available we do our best to photograph an actual thrown piece using the item.
These ribs are available in whole 1 inch increments in height (1”-6” unless otherwise indicated). Thickness on the 4 inch+ ribs is 5mm, for ribs shorter that 4” the thickness is 3-4mm.
**COLOR MAY NOT MATCH THE REFERENCE PHOTOS - We print these in whatever color we have in the printer that day. It may be colorful, it may be grey, black, or white. At this time we do not offer requests for custom coloring. Multiple items in an order may be different colors.

PROCESSING TIME:
We do our best to print and process orders in 1 to 5 business days.
Since each piece is printed to order, processing times may increase if you order multiple items. Rest assured, we do everything we can to ensure that your order will reach you quickly.

SHIPPING:
Your items are printed, packed and shipped from Oklahoma in the heart of the USA. As such, it can take several days in transit from coast to coast. We are currently working on worldwide shipping options.
